Experience

John Paul is a finance and investment professional with more than 13 years of experience in Corporate & SME Finance, Structured Finance, Financial Modeling, Credit Risk & Financial Statement Analysis, Debt & Equity Investment Origination, Structuring, Legal Documentation and Portfolio Monitoring across Sub-Saharan Africa and MENA. JohnPaul has transactional experience in financial services, renewable energy, agri-business, affordable housing and healthcare sectors.

He is the Regional Representative for Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East/North Africa for DWM Asset Management where he oversees a $65m portfolio across SSA and MENA with the objective of growing, developing and maintain domain expertise of the DWM investment funds under management and delivering risk adjusted returns. This includes  originating new investment opportunities in the target geographies, aligned with the fund’s investment mandate and eligibility criteria including debt, mezzanine debt, private equity, trade finance and structured products. He is responsible for negotiation and structuring of investments at key transaction stages including opportunity evaluation, term sheet development, due diligence, investment memo development, credit committee presentations and portfolio management/monitoring. Prior, he was a Portfolio Director, Africa for Global Partnerships where he originated, grew and managed a $23Mn investment portfolio in Africa focused on financial institutions and SMEs (in agribusiness, renewable energy & health sectors) across Sub-Saharan Africa. He started his career working in the financial services sector in Uganda at UAP Insurance and Stanbic Bank.

He holds a Master of Economic (Finance) degree from Central China Normal University (PRC) and a Bachelor of Management Science Degree from Kyambogo University (Uganda). He has completed Level 2 of the Certified Investment & Finance Analyst (CIFA) program and holds the Financial Modeling & Valuation Analyst (FMVA®) certification. He has also completed trainings in Advanced Financial Modeling & Advanced Credit Evaluation. He is fluent in English & Kiswahili.
