Experience

Sonia Tumusiime is an Investment Analyst with 2 years’ experience in Finance and Accounting. While working with Ortus Africa, Sonia has gained vast knowledge on managing a Venture Builder Fund; The 97Fund an open-ended investment vehicle (HoldCo) that builds and invests in high growth early stage companies. Investment work provides high levels of responsibility including; Analysis and performing due diligence on prospective early stage companies, providing research and information to support in decision making on investments, preparation of financial documents for presentation to potential investors and investment committee, producing analytical reports and recommendations required when approaching and advising stakeholders.

Sonia has been in involved in knowledge acquisition, research and business development on vast topics including; a concept note on commercialization of Intellectual Property and Impact of Covid19 on Businesses, an article on the journey of startup companies, analysis reports for example; The 97Fund Covid19 Business Relief Survey, Press releases and Thought leadership piece on providing funding and what it means among other research projects. In addition, the role includes advisory where she created financial models and strategic plans for clients as well as conducting market research on client industry and maintaining up to date information on the latest economic trend in the country and financial markets. 

Sonia started her finance and accounting experience at a Non-Government Organization, Refuge and Hope International as an accountant. She was responsible for preparing asset, liability and capital account entries, maintaining records, creating and updating inventories, compiling, analyzing and providing advise according to the accounting information of the organization. She acquired extensive knowledge of and insights into accountancy and various financial processes including budgeting, invoicing and accounts reconciliation, financial contracts, as well as learning accounting software package QuickBooks.
